Salsa – Full-Suspension Fatbike??

Are we seeing the future of full suspension fatbikes taking shape, I think so. Well the team at Salsa are working on it right now!

You can follow the link below and post your comments on there website to help them develop the wheel travel and rim & tire width that you would like to see.

My personal wishlist would be as follows:

100mm – wheel travel front & rear.
3.7/3.8 tires.
82mm rims maximum.

Anything wider like 4.5′s on 100mm rims would make no sense to me for a FS bike.

Here’s a quote from the article: “The inspiration for this project came from numerous people within our team (in a strangely timely convergence actually) and from the fact that fatbikes are being ridden all year long as opposed to being strictly thought of as snow or winter bikes. There is such tremendous capability within these machines that we wanted to have some full-suspension prototypes built to explore the concept further.”

Surly Necromancer Pugsley (Black Ops Pug)

Surly Pugsley

Here is a few shots of my 2011 Surley Pugsley with some new goodies I recently purchased and installed. A special thanks to Eric over at Revelate Designs who does a great job on these bags. The fit, finish and quality of these pieces are unbelievable. I replaced the stock long-cage rear derailleur with the shorter mid-cage, since the larger triple was replaced with a Surly Mr. Whirly and a 30 tooth stainless steel Surly chain ring up front. The 1×9 setup looks much cleaner, and works great via the Paul BB Chain Keeper. Now I don’t have to worry about dropping the chain off the front ring.

Surly Moonlander at Iceman Cometh

Well look what we have here, the Surly Moonlander showing up at the Iceman Cometh race in Michigan. I guess a little free promoting before the Moonlander hits your local bicycle shop in the next month or so.

The Iceman Cometh Challenge is a 27 mile point-to-point mountain bike race from Kalkaska to Traverse City, Michigan. Held traditionally on the first Saturday of November, and the 22nd annual Iceman was held on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

We’ve got two new frames to show in the Ogre and the Moonlander. The Long Haul Trucker will now have a disc brake option for those of you so inclined. We’ve got new complete versions of the Troll, the Moonlander, and a new Pugsley build to augment the current one (that means they’ll both be available.) There are a couple of new tire choices for yinz fat bike enthusiasts out there and we’ve made some changes to many of our current bike and frame models. Also new: The Long Haul Trucker and the Ogre will come in XXL – 24″ for the Ogre and 64cm for the LHT. We’ve got Clownshoes, Black Floyds, MWODs, Nates, Marge Lites, Lady Fingers, Black Cats, Whistling Bung Holes, Husker-Dus, Husker-Don’ts (with or without the scooter stick!), and lots of good old American Chaos to spread over the whole sandwich.

Mounting the 1up USA Quik-Rack to your Vehicle in 10 seconds or less

The same Quik-Rack but anodized in black. Fully assembled and ready for use. You won’t get bags full of nuts and bolts to assemble. Surly Pugsley Complete Bike – 2011

Pugsley was created to go where standard ‘all terrain’ bikes flounder. The floatation and traction afforded by large-volume, low-pressure tires can get you over and through otherwise unrideable terrain, such as sand, mud, wet rocks and roots, ice, and many kinds of snow. Wide, low-pressure tires are easier than standard tires on whatever terrain you pass over because they don’t dig in as easily.

A bunch of parts showed up from Alaska to Jeff from Indiana. What a great build!

“I didn’t have a way to press in the headset, so it’s at the shop right now….All the rest of the parts are ready & waiting, got the tires mounted & cassette & rotors put on.

I definitely missed the snow, but as soon as the frame gets back from the shop with headset & BB cups in, I’ll finish assembly & ride the heck outta it!”
